Bad
News Bears History

- In approximately
1977, Doris Davies saw a need for more recreational
facilities for the kids in the Eva Dell area of
Victorville. She contacted the city and found that there
was no money presently available to put any additional
facilities in that area. She decided "why wait"
and decided herself to take on the project of building a
full-size basketball court at Eva Dell Park. She went all
over town soliciting donations form businesses and
individuals that would be able to donate, time labor,
and/or materials for this project. She completed this
after a lot of hard work and a lot of talking.
One of the problems
she encountered was that business people wanted to
donate, but would have also appreciated a chance to write
off these donations. So, she came up with the idea of
forming a non-profit organizations just for these types
of projects. That was the beginning of the Bad News Bears
Benefit Ball Games organization.
