Dear HiDAS Members and Friends, For our January meeting we will be back
at the Science and Technology center on the usual third Saturday of the month, the 17th of
January. The HiDAS board of directors will meet at 6:30 PM. Please, board members, try to
be there and on time. The regular meeting with start at 7:30 PM with observing through the
C-14 in the dome afterwards. On the 30th of January, the Science Center will be hosting
about 60 middle school students and some parents from down below and they have asked us to
provide telescope support. Sixty + persons are too many for the building and the dome to
accommodate at the same time so I have volunteered my C-14 and myself outside in the cold
along with Jennifer Phillips and her Mead 10 inch. Since the students will be using the
auditorium at Mojave Mesa which is only a short walk away, we will be able to control the
number of people in the dome to about 5 - 7 at a time. Hopefully, that will also allow
more time per person looking through the telescope. We have been promised plenty of help
from the Science Center to handle the crowd. I feel that it is important for us to support
all Science Center events that involve the observatory since we are given free use of all
the facilities at any time. I hope to see everyone at the meeting Saturday.
