- Victor Valley College would like to welcome everyone who
is interested in astronomy to join the Friends of the
Planetarium, a new non-profit subsidiary of the College
Foundation devoted to supporting and enhancing our new
space science theater.
- "Through the summer, meetings will be held on
Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Human Resources
Conference Room (next to the Ram's Bookstore) in the
Victor Valley College administration building.
It can be hard to find, so call ahead.
By the fall semester, we expect to be able to meet in the
planetarium.

- The Planetarium Update
"The Friends of the Planetarium has
adopted By-Laws and elected its first slate of officers
and committee members. They are: Planetarium Director, T.
Scott Bryan President, Sharon Walker Vice President, Bill
Bridgers Secretary-Treasurer, Dorothy Harp Membership
Chair, Tom Elder Publicity Chair, Cyndy Mandell
Activities Chair, Ross McEachron These persons, who
comprise the Board of Directors, are supported by 32 paid
Founding Members as of May 9, 1996.
- The planetarium is under construction as part of the
college's new science laboratory building. According to
Scott Bryan, the director of the facility, "Victor
Valley College will soon boast the Zeiss ZKP3 projector
system, making this a state-of-the-art planetarium. A
series of special effects projectors will simulate
comets, meteors, supernova star explosions, Jupiter and
its moon, and the entire Solar System. A sophisticated
computer automation system, video projectors and surround
sound will be installed in the near future."

- Membership Information
Members will receive a membership card,
discounted admission prices, a monthly newsletter, free
admission to special premiers and Friends-only programs,
an invitation to an annual party, their name included in
the laser display at the start of public presentations,
and a 10% discount at the planetarium store.
"Founding Membership is $12.00 per person through
August 1, 1996. Special tours of the new facility and
developmental program showings during Fall 1996 will be
available only to Founding Members. After August 1, 1996,
memberships will be start at $25 per year. A brochure
detailing membership categories and benefits will be
